Ford Escort MkII RS2000

.......................................

...

This car came to us as a 'flatfront' model, it was always suspicious when looking for RS2000's as there were a few standard escorts that just had a 2.0L pinto bunged in it, but after close inspection by Dan n Tom it was found to be a real RS, with the rad lugs, and factory fitted anti-tramp bars and all the stuff only fitted to RS'S.

Dan originally owned this car, but as a few squeeks started to develop, and he wanted a better one, so he sold it to me

......................................

With Dan owning the car before me the paintwork was pretty immaculate (apart from where 'Bobbie' the dog had jumped on the boot)

and of course the engine was excellent !

the car also sat very low, it had Spax adjustables all round and used to stick to the road like glue, in fact it didnt really matter what speed you took corners or roundabouts and used to get one rear wheel leave the ground often lol,

it had a quickrack steering rack which was excellent as you hardly had to turn the steering wheel much at all,

2" exhaust system with 4 branch and an OMB Motorsport box (OMB still going ? hehe) ,

a strutbrace which did an excellent job at stiffening up the front end

And of course the polished RS alloys with the Pirelli P600's

I eventually had the standard 4 speed gearbox go, and Dan n Tom fitted me a 5speed gearbox with quickshift, what a difference that made !

......................................

I had this car a few years and eventually it was the battle to keep on top of the famous 'Ford rot' ! and the bodywork was also starting to suffer. With the rust I was getting through the front wings and front valance it was a shame. I was then offered an RS2000 front nosecone and I thought about it, a mate said he would like to do the work (nice one Nick 'Screwloose' ;-) (dont let the name put you off lol) so I bought the nosecone and a pair of RS2000 'nosecone' wings (as they are obviously very different from the standard MkII wings, And with his 'special welding hat' Nick got to work on the front end over a weekend at his old mans garage (end of my road - BONUS ! lol)

The pics below show the difference between the 'flatfront' and the 'nosecone'

....................................

......................................

And of course I had to include a picture of Nick's 'Special Welding Hat' ! lol

He never did tell me why......... IT JUST WAS !

and he wouldn't weld without it

......................................

but as time went by and after the little front end prang it was time to make decisions again........ and I was offered a full X-Pack kit for it........ n remembering Dan's first RS200 with the X-Pack kit i thought........... yeah why not, had to get some WIDE wheels n tyres for it tho to fill the arches ! lol

......................................

I did keep the car for a good while longer and always used to be out n about, Friday nights I had the usual car full hehe, with the two 12" RCL's behind the back seat listening to some tunes, usually ending up with some involvement with the Police somewhere.......... was always getting stopped ! have even had the police helicopter and armed response units surrounding the car n eveything ! lol mad, really was

.........

I eventually had a piston and rings go on me, but I asked a mate of mine if I could use his garage n stuff for a weekend to fix it to which he said yeah (Loui in Bilton ;-) and we set to work with a trusty Haynes manual. Piston, Rings, Headgasket, Bottom Gasket Set, Big End Bearings, n stuff....... hehe we stripped it, got the new stuff in and got it all back together, n it worked ! no way lol, but was never quite the same.

With this and the progressive underbody rot I decided to get rid of it, the engine did loosen up a week before I sold it but it still had to go
