Triumph Dolomite

This car was a killer ! lol, It almost killed 2 people, one being myself !

2 weeks after passing my test I was driving round with a girlfriend (Smirnoff of K-MO) and it had was raining a little, after going round an island and over a pedestrian crossing we noticed a bloke walking on the pavement to the left with a big like army 'carry everything' bag on his shoulder, and the twat decided that even tho he couldnt see cuz of his bag, and the fact it was a busy day, on a busy road , that he was just gonna walk across the road without even looking to see if anything was coming ! lol, he didn't get that far across,

after applying my brakes, and the wheels locking up, and skidding across the road towards oncoming traffic, the twat thumped onto me bonnet n his head went full force straight into the windscreen ! as he rolled off the car and onto the road, some blokes stopped n sorta knew what they were doing checking for signs of life n stuff, at first they thought he was dead, until he started making some noises n frothing at the mouth.

If you look close you will see where his head was lol

Luckily, where the car stopped (and the bloke lol) was right outside a friends house (Barbara n Charlie) who also owned a vermillion Dolomite, who happened to have a spare windscreen in their house ! how unbeleivably luck is that ! so i giv 'em a fiver n put it in the boot ;-)

What about the bloke I hear you all say ?! well, apparently the bloke was that pissed that he didnt know anything about it ! The good side is that if he weren't then apparently he would have been dead !, The police were in the hospital saying to him "you have been involved in a very serious car accident" to which the bloke replied "have I ?" lol, But after having all the bits of glass from my windscreen removed from his skull he apparently discharged himself and I had to pay all the emergency fees.

the overdrive gearboxes were a nightmare for me with this car, and I went through a fair few, but the final straw was when I fitted it's third ! Through a friend I heard about a white Dolomite that was just sitting outside someones house, and they enquired, and the bloke wanted rid of it, it was obvious it had sat there for some time and that the engine was dead, infact, Tom (NOIM) towing it at 70 back down the A45 was probably the fastest it had been for some time ! lmfao,

Anyway, a few days later, I took the gearbox out of the white one and dragged it round the entry where mine was sat on axle stands, I had already removed the gearbox out of mine ready, it was mid summer and was sweltering, and i had spent a few afternoons struggling to get the gearbox spline into the engine, tried everything, I had fitted a new clutch also and thought it may have been alignment problems so I had that back off a few times too ! It was obvious to me that I needed a hand with it this time, and luckily with this car the complete gearbox tunnel is removable, so I thought....... if I try n get it on from underneath and I have a freind trying to push the top in from inside the car then it will be a winner :-)

The only person I could get hold of was a mate called Andy (ibanez) but I just wanted the gearbox in, he came up and I told him that I just wanted him to push the gearbox bell housing at the top with his feet, no probs, so there I was, under the car pushing and wobbling this gearbox while Andy was doing the same with his feet and it just weren't having none of it, and I said...."ok 1 last go" and we tried again, and as I looked to the left I could see the whole car coming forward with the axle stands tipping forward at the same time ! The car had subsequently come off the axle stands crushing me underneath it,

I obviously couldnt move as my head was pinned to the ground by the crossmember, I could just hear whistling but was obvious I was still alive ! lol, Andy says "oh, errrrrm shall I call an ambulance ?" to which i mumbled "jack the fucking car up !" lol he bounced around in the car to get out, jacked the car up and I felt the pressure go immediately, and I got myself from under the car, he was saying "ouch my bloody finger" I said "whats wrong with your finger ?" to which he replied "well I was pushing the gearbox with my feet like you said, but the handbrake was in my nuts, so I let it off" so it was obvious why the car had come off the f'kin axle stands ! twat ! the shape of my head was unreal, but soon went back to normal, n after me ribs mended all i have is a scar on me face to remind me of the incident lol to which I can now laugh about.

Hence, at this point, the car just had to go ! But YES I got the gearbox in ;-) thanks to Vince and Frank, (i told Vince what had happened when i phoned him n he was like 'yeah yeah' hehe but when they knocked me front door n i answered....... one look at me n they were like "WHAT THE F'K HAPPENED TO YOU !!!!??) hehe, but can you beleive that the soddin gearbox went straight in, on the splines, perfect, no effort, typical ! :-/
